During the 16 Days of Activism to Eliminate Violence Against Women, we will be sharing 16 ways you can be an ally and do your bit to end violence against women.
On Day 10, we ask men to be more vocal about violence against women, and sign the White Ribbon Pledge not to commit, condone or stay silent about gender-based violence.
Violence against women is a pervasive issue across the world. In the Unite Kingdom 1 in 4 women have experienced or are experiencing domestic abuse, 1 in 5 women have experienced sexual assault and, in England and Wales, 2 women a week are murdered by their current or former partners.
We ask our brothers, sons, fathers, and male friends & colleagues to speak out about violence against women, to challenge it when you see it when it is safe to do so, and to not be permissive of jokes or comments about rape or domestic abuse.
We ask that you sign the White Ribbon Pledge to end male violence against women once and for all.
“We need to reach out to men and lead by example; male violence against women must stop. Another world is possible – one of equality, respect and kindness” Chris Green, Founder of White Ribbon UK.
If you have been affected by domestic or sexual violence, you can get support from our 24 Hour Domestic & Sexual Violence Helpline on 0808 802 1414, or from a local Women’s Aid group. Find a group in your area here.
