Conference: Coercive Control
with Professor Evan Stark
Hosted by Women’s Aid Northern Ireland
22 March 2017, 10am–4pm
Skainos Centre, Belfast
How can the state, justice system and support services better respond to survivors of domestic abuse in Northern Ireland? This conference will focus on these questions and discuss how the introduction of domestic abuse legislation in Northern Ireland will affect the work of practitioners across all sectors, including courts and justice workers, social workers, police officers and service providers, among others. What does the new legislation mean in practice and why do we need it in Northern Ireland? Women’s Aid NI invites you to attend what promises to be a fruitful conversation, hearing from different speakers, including keynote speaker, Professor Evan Stark, leading global expert on coercive control in the context of domestic abuse, and author of Coercive Control: How men entrap women in personal life. Other confirmed speakers include representatives from the Bar Council, Probation Board NI and Public Prosecution Service.
