The women from the European Network Women against Violence Europe – WAVE are shocked and outraged to hear about the recent brutal murder of Özgecan Aslan in Turkey.
Women experience violence everywhere in Europe; a new survey shows that 62 million women in Europe, 1 in 3 women, have experienced physical or sexual violence since the age of 15. “This violence needs to be stopped! We demand better protection and support for women,” urges WAVE President Ms. Rosa Logar.
WAVE calls upon the EU, the Council of Europe and all European states, to urgently improve their measures to protect women from violence and to provide more financial resources to awareness raising, women’s support services and access to justice. This can save lives. “We cannot stop this daily terror against women without financial means. Not to invest in peace and human rights for women means to tolerate the violence!” reminds Ms. Logar.
