Women’s Aid Federation NI has today published the latest edition of the ‘Responsible Reporting Matters’ guidelines for reporting on domestic abuse and violence against women and girls.
Originally developed in 2019 by Women’s Aid Federation Northern Ireland in collaboration with the South Eastern Domestic & Sexual Violence Partnership, these guidelines were created with support from experienced journalists Alison Morris, Kathryn Torney, and Tara Mills.
The updated guidelines reflect recent policy and legislative changes in Northern Ireland, as well as shifts in how we consume media.
Topics covered include:
- Understanding domestic abuse and violence against women & girls
- The intersectional impact of domestic abuse
- Common issues in reporting on domestic abuse
- The importance of imagery
- Engaging with victims and survivors
